TextLift privacy policy
Applies to TextLift version 0.2.0. Last updated 2026-10-22.
Short version: TextLift does not collect your data and sends nothing to Quiet Relay or any third party. It has no account, analytics or tracking. One feature, Download Chat TXT, makes requests to youtube.com from your browser; details below.
What TextLift reads
- On a YouTube video page you choose to use it on: the page's transcript panel, the video title and link, and the player's list of caption tracks.
- Only when you press Download Chat TXT: the chat replay YouTube serves for that video.
What TextLift does with it
- It writes the result only to your clipboard (Copy) or to a file you save (Download). Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
- It stores nothing: no extension storage, cookies, history or logs. A finished or partial chat export is held in the page's memory so you can save it again, until you start another export or leave the page.
- It has no accounts, API keys, analytics, telemetry, developer servers or remotely loaded code.
- Transcript and chat text is treated as plain text, never as code.
Network use
- Copy Full Transcript and Download TXT: TextLift makes no requests of its own. It reads the transcript panel on the page you are looking at (opening that panel is YouTube's own page loading it, exactly as when you click it yourself).
- Download Chat TXT: TextLift makes requests to
https://www.youtube.comonly, from your own browser and using your existing YouTube session: one to find out whether the video has a chat replay, one for the list of chat modes, then one per page of messages (roughly 40 to 80 messages per page). Requests are sent one at a time, at least a quarter of a second apart, capped at 3,000 page requests, with at most three retries per page. The requests carry YouTube's own page context and a continuation token; TextLift adds no identifiers. Nothing is sent to any other host. - Chat export never runs on a stream that is still live, and it never runs in the background: it starts only when you press the button.
Permissions
activeTab: lets the toolbar popup talk to the YouTube tab you opened it on.clipboardWrite: lets the Copy button place the transcript on your clipboard.- Scripts run only on
https://www.youtube.com/*. TextLift requests no host permissions.
Other people's content
A chat export contains other people's public display names and messages, as YouTube serves them. The file stays on your device unless you share it. Please respect the people in it when you do.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking scripts of its own. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any host, processes ordinary request information (such as IP address and the page requested) to serve and protect the site.
Changes
If TextLift's data handling changes, this page and its date will change with it, and the new version of the extension will say so in its release notes.
